Run to Learn

The Achilles Kids: Run To Learn is a free school-based program that integrates professionally developed lesson plans into running, walking or "wheeling" (workouts for children who may use a wheelchair or an adaptive bicycle). Educators from preschool through high school can encourage students to participate in a “virtual” marathon completed over the school year, a virtual run or walk across America, or even the moon.

Run to Learn encourages and motivates children with disabilities to participate in regular physical activity through monthly step and mileage challenges, along with running games and activities.

While the children are tackling their year-long goal distance, they are also realizing short-term achievements based on meeting weekly goals. Accomplishments are celebrated with a variety of awards provided by Achilles Kids.

“As a teacher, I greatly enjoy the support and flexibility of the Achilles Kids program. Each of my athletes have unique abilities. Students enjoy this structured running program while increasing their endurance and stamina. For students who changed teachers or schools, this program has been particularly beneficial by helping give them a sense of stability. My students are delighted when they receive their certificates as acknowledgement of their achievement.”
