RESILIENCE RELAY FEATURED ATHLETE: EARL

Achilles Resilience Relay 2021

EARL GRANVILLE

United States Army staff Sergeant (Retired) Earl Granville. In 2009, a bus of veterans rehabbing at the then Walter Reed Army Medical Center, was about to depart for NYC. They were set to participate in the Achilles Hope & Possibility event in Central Park. Earl, recovering from injuries he sustained in action, saw the bus loading and asked “where are you guys going?” … hopped on the bus...and the rest is history. Earl has conquered six marathons and several shorter distance mainstream races with the Achilles Freedom Team. He is also a respected public speaker whose mission is to bring people together and speak about the mental adversity we all face – and that we do not have to face it alone. Earl is a force and important voice in the veterans with disabilities space. During the pandemic earls typically overscheduled life came to a halt like many of ours did. “Physical fitness is a passion of mine. PT was a great and healthy relief through these challenging times. (During the Relay and Hope & Possibility) I am looking forward to getting to spend time with my freedom team and other Achilles teammates. “ Earl lives in Scranton, PA, with his wonderful pup, Sparta. Achilles treasures Earl and we sure are glad he made the choice to get on that bus over a decade ago!
