Race Recap: The Cigna Group Sponsors 27 Achilles Athletes and Military Veterans in Walt Disney World® Marathon Race Weekend

Thanks to the support of The Cigna Group, 27 Achilles athletes, led by military veterans of the Achilles Freedom Team, competed in the 2024 Walt Disney World® Marathon weekend in Orlando, FL on January 4 through 7.

David Cordani, CEO of The Cigna Group, ran as a guide with longtime friend, retired U.S. Army Sergeant Stefan LeRoy of the Achilles Freedom Team in the 5K. In addition to providing guide support, The Cigna Group also hosted a Pixar themed dinner and an EPCOT adventure for athletes and their families to kick off the weekend.

Five Achilles Freedom Team veterans completed all of the race distances (5K, 10K, half-marathon, and full marathon) as part of the Dopey Challenge:

Though the half marathon race distance was shortened due to severe weather, Achilles handcyclists from across the country jubilantly crossed the finish line of the race together in unison, demonstrating the power of teamwork.

Congratulations to Kieron Ragoonath, Team Achilles Kids, who won the grand prize of competing in the race after raising over $9,800 to support other athletes with disabilities as part of a fundraising challenge.

Achilles also thanks The GM Military Appreciation Program for providing athletes and their families special experiences during the race weekend, including a private dinner above the Test Track Presented by Chevrolet® ride and front row seating to the EPCOT fireworks show.
