Two World Marathon Majors, One Achilles Community

Read recaps and view photo galleries of the Achilles athletes, guides, charity runners, and partners who participated in the Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America on April 20 and the TCS London Marathon on April 26.

Boston

At the Boston Marathon, Achilles supported 72 athletes and 58 guides, with 11 U.S. chapters and eight different countries represented. The Achilles Freedom Team also had a strong presence, with 19 athletes, including U.S. Marine Corps veteran Zach Stinson who came in first place in his division for the fourth time in his career. Three Achilles chapter leaders also competed in Boston, including:

  • Francesco Magisano, Achilles NYC

  • Joe LeMar, Achilles Boston

  • Andrea Quaregna, Achilles New Jersey

  • Joe Sorbanelli, Achilles New Jersey

  • Anthony Butler, Achilles Charlotte

These leaders represented their local communities on one of the sport’s biggest stages and highlighted the leadership and commitment that drives the organization year-round.

Seven Team Achilles charity runners also participated in the marathon weekend, collectively raising over $76,000 to support Achilles programs and expand opportunities for athletes with disabilities around the world.

Before the race, the Achilles Freedom Team was recognized in the Boston Red Sox pregame ceremonial first pitch and the Achilles Boston chapter hosted a shakeout run.

Achilles thanks the Boston Athletic Association, Bank of America, Yankee Line, the Boston Police Department, the MBTA, and the Boston Red Sox for supporting and making the race weekend special for our community.

London

On April 26, 116 Achilles community members completed the TCS London Marathon, including Rolando Lee of New Jersey and Paul Barclay of New Zealand who completed the Boston Marathon only six days before.

Prior to race day, athletes and guides from multiple international chapters participated in a shakeout run in Hyde Park led by the Achilles UK chapter.

Ten Team Achilles charity runners joined the field in London fundraising in support of athletes with disabilities. Among them was Jake Domos, who raised more than $15,000 in honor of his sister, who is blind.
