Achilles Racing Wheelchair Program

We offer free, inclusive racing wheelchair practices from March to July at CUNY Queens College Track next to Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Though specialized practices are on pause until next spring, contact Arielle Rausin at arausin@achillesinternational.org for more information on accessing a racing wheelchair at an existing adaptive cycling workout at one of Achilles’ other workout locations.

Wheelchair racing is a Paralympic sport designed for athletes with lower limb disabilities. Typical events range from track events like the 100 meter and 400 meter, to road races like 5K races and marathons. Athletes in the Achilles Racing Wheelchair Program will complete a track workout every week together to train for the annual Achilles Hope & Possibility® 4M Presented By TD Bank in Central Park each June.

Registration

All participants will be required to register for this program through our community management system, Rosterfy.

We have a limited number of racing wheelchairs available, so registration will be on a first come first serve basis. If athletes have their own equipment they are encouraged to bring it to participate and to indicate it on their Rosterfy interest form.

If you have not previously registered on Rosterfy, you will be required to make a free account here. You will be prompted to indicate your chapter and what activities you would like to participate in with Achilles. Please select New York City as your chapter, and indicate “Racing Wheelchair” as an activity you would like to participate in in order to see all of the available racing wheelchair opportunities.

If you have already created an account on Rosterfy, you will need to log in to your dashboard and add “Racing Wheelchair” as an activity you would like to participate in with Achilles in order to view all of the racing wheelchair opportunities available.

Volunteer for Achilles

Want to help us make a difference in the lives of athletes living with disabilities? Volunteer with Achilles at an upcoming workout. Your support enables us to provide athletes with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy a tough workout session on the track!

Volunteers will also need to register via Rosterfy for this program. We welcome an unlimited amount of Volunteers for this program.

There is no cost to participate in the program, however, reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance. You will receive a confirmation email from a member of our team once your reservation is confirmed, including the exact meeting location and a waiver that must be signed. Helmets are required at all times while on the track, they will be provided for use during your ride.
