Achilles Freedom Team to Compete in 2026 Detroit Free Press Marathon on October 18 Thanks to Support from GM Military Appreciation Program and Chevy Detroit Dealers

Achilles International is pleased to announce that the Achilles Freedom Team will once again compete in the Detroit Free Press Marathon thanks to the continued generosity and support of the GM Military Appreciation Program and Chevy Detroit Dealers.

From protecting and serving on the frontlines, to now racing across the start line, 20 veterans with disabilities will have the opportunity to participate in the various celebrations of marathon weekend.

“I’m looking forward to my fifth Detroit Marathon since 2017. Race weekend with Achilles and GM is always incredibly special, and the race itself is a standout on the marathon circuit. As a handcycle athlete, having the opportunity to compete in and be recognized as part of an official division truly sets this marathon apart from so many others. I’m always grateful and excited to head back to the ‘D’ and celebrate our community with my Achilles and GM Military Appreciation program families,” says Zach Stinson, Achilles Freedom Team member and United States Marine Sergeant (Ret.).

The father of two and combat wounded veteran has won the handcycle division of the race numerous times.

The Achilles Freedom Team will be treated to several special team dinners downtown, travel via GM shuttles, and enjoy a warm breakfast post-marathon courtesy of Chevy Detroit Dealers.

“Welcoming the Achilles Freedom Team back to Detroit is a highlight of our year. Chevy Detroit Dealers has supported this team since 2010, and today all 38 of our local Chevrolet dealers are behind them. Every year, these athletes inspire us with their courage, determination, and heart. We’re honored to be part of their weekend and can’t wait to cheer them on at the finish line,” said Joe Lunghamer, President of Chevy Detroit Dealers.

GM and the Chevy Detroit Dealers have been supporting the Achilles Freedom Team since 2010.
